Blazing Satires

Let's be honest, I don't think there are too many students in Mr. Mullins' class right now that aren't totally hyped that we have switched gears from Shakespeare to satire because I definitely am. There are so many examples of satire throughout the ages, and satire is easily understood. I think this is a great transition after having more of a difficult time understanding Shakespeare. I'm sure as high school students the best examples  of satire would be Family Guy (shows like that) and any Mel Brooks films, including Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Blazing Saddles. When we discussed satire in length in AP Junior English, I wrote a paper on Blazing Saddles as an example of satire and therefore satire (especially in Blazing Saddles) has become a concept I am more familiar with than most we'll discuss in English class. As I'm sure the Importance of Being Earnest is a great choice, it would still be awesome to watch one of those in class... ;) I guess that's just wishful thinking, but regardless I'm still super excited for this section and movie watching we'll be doing instead of in-class essay writing or something along those lines. Considering I wasn't in class on Monday, and Wednesday was just an introduction to satire I really don't have a ton of great things to say in a blog quite yet so I'm sorry if this one was terrible. I promise it will be better next week!
I think this is a great scene to represent satire from this film! (It's also one of the funniest!)
*Warning: there is a bad word...but just one so I hope that's okay...
I mean, it's in Mark Twain 1000 times so I figured it'd be okay for this... If not I'm sorry heh heh*
